“Make Money Online” rankings changed in Google: for how long?

I just read it on John Chow that he is no longer ranking number one for “make money online”. I checked it with an US IP and it’s true. Even Problogger is not in the top anymore, but on the seventh position. However, I see Bidvertiser managed to stay in top (thy are #1). John Chow ranks for ‘make money online’ on pages from 2 to5, and I remember he was very happy after his blog got a PR6 because he used to be number one.

Why do you think this happened? Could it be because John Chow did the “review me for a link back?” and he upset the big Google? He started this kind of link love back in March and it looks like it worked for 3 months but now something changed. Did Google found an algorithm to get those that offer incentives for links or for those that use programs like ReviewMe and PayPerPost? I don’t think so, but something is definitely going on, over there. My biggest concern is if’s for a short term or if it’s going to last!

One last thing that I would be curious about: how much traffic did they lose because of that?

That is why one of my sites suddenly dropped from the first page for “money myspace layouts” to no page at all. I was there, on the first page and the to no page! I asked myself why but I didn’t figure it out so far.
